Go put Google Map Mobile on Your N95
The latest version of Google Map Mobile has a significant new feature that it’s made to my must-installed-on-N95 software list.
The feature call My Location that will allow you see your location without GPS. With N95 you won’t know your location indoor even it has GPS. The My Location feature takes information broadcast from mobile towers near you to approximate your current location on the map - it’s not GPS, but it comes pretty close (approximately 1000m close, on average). This fill the void that GPS turned useless once you are under cover.
So far, with the My Location on gmap, you can quickly center the map at your approximate location. you can then search things and the result will shown around the center. However, it can’t be used to get direction. When you get direction, regardless, you still need fill both To and From addresses. It’ll be nice to have approximate direction as well, as least you know the general way to go and distance. The gmap is trying to us GPS until it gives up when can’t find the birds in the space.
