5 Free Navigation Software for N95

Technically any Symbian S60 3ed OS and Java smartphone can use these software. And they are all free. They all work great on my N95, without GPS input. I can’t test how the navigation works in Europe though.

Nokia Map

If you have N95, it’s built in. This is a native S60 3ed application. And recently Nokia upgrade it’s Map. I’ve talked about it days ago. The map application is also known as Smart2Go. For N95, it’s a GPS-enabled mapping and routing system that can be upgraded to automatic turn instructions and voice guidance by paying a small fee for a period of time.

Yahoo! Go 2.0

This is a Java application that you get it from mobile.yahoo.com/go. The whole Go 2.0 package does a lot more than maps, it’s a mini Yahoo on your N95 with very cohesive and stylish user interface. I use it a lot to check news, weather and sometimes emails.

Google Map

The mobile edition of Google Map is classic good example of mobile application. I like all those hot keys for quick access. It’s also a Java application. That means it will run on any mobile device with J2ME support. For that matter, it’s a good explanation why it’s not working with built-in GPS.

Nav4All

Get this from www.nav4all.com. It’s J2ME based application and so far it’s free. They might, according to their message, charge the service next year. But I can’t see how they can pull it off along with all these free services on the street. This one supports built-in GPS though, plus voice directed turn instruction. I think it’s far from a paid quality service, by looking at either UI and features.

amAze

Also a J2ME application that supports built-in GPS and bluetooth (for add-on GPS). This one has a good rich set of features. Haven’t really been able to test it but have heard the routes generated are not that reliable. It’s free, so no complain.
