N95 v12 Firmware Upgrade for Sure

upgrade2

You know the v12 N95 firmware upgrade was out for awhile. However, it’s not everyone can have it. Someone even complained that it’s a hoax because from some places, such the US, the Nokia Software Upgrade kept saying there is no new version. That’s exactly what I experienced until last week.

Last week I download the Nokia Software upgrade again and finaly saw the new version was available to US downloader. But it’s not like verything went smooth as expected. My first try was failed. The Upgrade software kept asking reset the phone to recover to previous state. I was so glad, actually, the upgrade software can do that.

I wait for another couple days and tried again, it worked. After rebooting (power off) couple of times, I’ve also got the backup restored.

However, one thing I noticed, all the Java (J2ME) based programs I’ve installed are not functional. The icons are restored correctly into the right folder. It’s just won’t do anything once you click them. I have no idea what went wrong. Guess I need just reinstall them. I’m just glad, again, the icons got restored so that I know what software I need to reinstall.

Be aware too, this upgrade is fairly big, about 120MB. So give yourself enough time based on your connection bandwidth.

Just you know, in case you are doing the same thing.
