Finally Free Windows Live Messenger on N95

POSTED BY Jack on May 30 under N95 Software

If use Windows Live Messenger on PC like I do, you must felt the pain that you can’t do that on your N95 unless you pay for certain software. Well, pain no more. Here at Nokia you can have it for free now. Apparently it just made available to the US and other countries. Can’t understand why it’s not there at the first place. Sometime Nokia acts very odd. Something like they have this wonderful motion sensor on N95 but they don’t use it until now (only from lab software) and allow iPhone stole all the thunders.

Only If You Love Reading This Much

POSTED BY Jack on May 28 under N95 Software

What I mean is that you would even read book on you N95. Do you? I’d be really admiring you if you do. But why not? Here are the two software you can try.

eReader for S60 3rd

Yes, that means your N95 will do. eReader is a long standing eBook store which provides some of the current best sellers in eBook form, protected via its own form of DRM. They provides a version of their reader for multiple platforms. However a few years ago they seemed to lose interest in support Symbian OS handsets, but under the new ownership of Fictionwise this seems to be changing.

Mobipocket backed by Amazon

This one has long history and feature wise has no big different from the eReader. Those features are such as full screen mode, the ability too look up words, bookmarks, autoscroll, font and text settings. If you do use N95, these are all you need.

BTW, if you enjoy classics or those public domain ebooks, head to Memoware or Baen. Both software mentioned work well with those freebes.

POSTED BY Jack on May 27 under N95 Software

If you are lucky Nokia N95-3 and N95-4 owner, it’s your lucky day. Both of them get firmware update.

N95-3: V 20.2.011

No change log yet.

N95-4: V 20.2.005

No change log yet but believe there won’t be too much new features, if it has some at all.

You can go to Nokia Software Update (NSU) for the update.

Raise a Pet from within your N95

POSTED BY Jack on May 20 under Mobile Service, N95 Usage

Not sure why you want to this but as a dog owner I’m sure it’s lot easier to have a virtual pet than the real deal. So the WidSets Pets might be just your thing.

Nokia WidSets is a widget platform that allows you create all sorts of micro application to later download to your phone, say N95, to run it. The app could be many things such as RSS feed or, pets.

The WidSets Pets is a facebook application where you can create or care your pet. Then, you can use your N95 to do all the pets things. If you’re the caring, sharing type you can also adopt your friends’ pets if you want to give them a good home and make sure they’re properly fed and nourished. You’ll need to pay close attention to their love, intellect, social skills, looks, hunger/thirst and fame and they can be demanding little beggers.

If you like this, you must have way too much free time.

Nokia Share SoO Supports Geo Tagging

POSTED BY Jack on May 19 under Mobile Service, N95 Photo, N95 Software

I wrote about Nokia Share platform, Share on Ovi, a while ago. Now there are some progress been made and introduced by the SoO blog. SoO (Share on Ovi) will now will recognize if GPS information has been embedded in the photo and if so, will display a map of where the photo was taken.

Photos taken using Location Tagger or with phones such as N82/N78 that have Geo-tagging capabilities inbuilt contain location data in the EXIF headers and such pictures will now be displayed with a relevant map. For those pictures that lack such data, we will still be able to add location information.

On another note, there are two things I’d like to have in SoO:

- Ability to open Images in a new window; makes for much easier browsing.

- A decent desktop uploader that can preferably give me a right click ‘Send To’ option.

Very nice.

Use iPhone Google Reader on N95

POSTED BY Jack on May 14 under Mobile Service, N95 Software, N95 Usage

Google is in bed with iPhone. We all know that. Google even went this far to create a Google Reader for iPhone, the first time the search giant do something for a “small” piece of hardware. How about us N95 owners?

The NokiaAdict dude tried the iPhone Google reader on his N800, which pumped Dotsisx gave it a kick on N95. Here is the link for trying yourself: http://www.google.com/reader/i/ Just browse to the URL from your N95 and see how do you like it.

According to Dotsisx:

Now with Google Reader for the iPhone, the situation is different. By choosing a zoom level of 75%, I can easily browse the new items, with a great amount of separation, which makes each title individualized with a small snippet. By pressing on “Feeds”, I go to my subscriptions, where not only I have my feeds grouped by folders, but I also have the same layout as on the computer, ie : my shared items, friend’s items, my starred items, my tags, and my folders. Awesome!

I agree. The biggest challenge using the regular Google reader is that it’s hard to read. Now we have a solution.

Play Drum with N95 via NiiMe Drums

POSTED BY Jack on May 13 under N95 Software

Here is another cool software developed using the motion censor we have on the N95, the NiiMe Drums. It is a music-product solution that allows you to compose the music tracks just by shaking your N95 or any other Symbian S60 phone with motion sensor. The result is instantly playing on the PC. Not sure if this could be for serious music guys but it certainly be fun toy to be a musical hero. Besides, when you need some beats, a N95 in you pocket is definitely much accessible than a full rack of drums. You can download it from here.

Or, see for yourself before getting it:
